Looking up the food chain

Image
Picture Courtesy: Flickr In the past 7 years of my professional working career I have worked under some good people, some bad one, some impatient, some calm, some arrogant, some kind, some devoted to the cause, some careless. Most of them says that it is a corporate ladder that we climb over the years. But now I feel its more like a food chain than a ladder. It is more like a mouse evolving into a cat, rather than climbing up the ranks. I have had the privilege to work with a delivery head who would get involved with each person under them (nearly 200) and also have worked with a person who doesn't even greet or smile when there is eye contact. I have seen a lenient leader who couldn't get any good work done by their team and a strict leader who got the best out of people. Upon looking back I have a few people who actually made an impression on me. On the deadline day when you have to give a demo, the process which has to reach from point a to b, gets stuck in be...

My Seat in the bus!

" Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down. " -- Oprah Winfrey. For me; my Limo, Mercedes, Ferrari, Bugatti and every other thing is my bus only. My preferred seat in the bus is the 2 seater side last but one seat, the window side in particular. I never ever in my wildest dream had thought that ppl would notice me using the same seat everyday and would consider that seat as mine.  One day all of a sudden and out of nowhere a person came and spoke with me saying that he commutes in the same bus as mine. I had never seen him before, so I was still in doubt and then he said that I am the person who always sits in the last but one seat. After this my doubt was cleared and was shocked to know that people notice me in the bus. Also a friend of mine said that many ppl does not even sit in that seat as they think that I might come. Woow now that's what I am talking, I had made a s...

Days of my Life.

The past three months, wow one hell of a ride. First of all my decision on studying again, I never thought I would be able to do it. I have started my MS (part time). It is not easy to do a part time studying, coz u don't get much time to study and on top of it the dead line of project. Trust me you need extra strength and courage to take this kinda decision. Then came the midterm exams. This was an interesting thing, as I had not taken up a written test from past 2.5 years. It was fun to get back into the classroom, see the ppl around u writing, when all that u know is the subject title. Still was able to get out of the room first. The last exam was great as I knew that i had finished my exams, so I could enjoy the next day! Work, not the same thing always. I am one of the most luckiest one in my process area, as I have been into development projects only. Thanks to whoever was responsible for it, because of which my Technical Knowledge Spectrum is widening with every single pro...

One night at a Infy!!!

On Thursday 22-Jan-2009, I reached office at 10:00AM. I left the office on Friday 23-Jan-2009 6:00AM. This was an awesome experience, I had never stayed before at office overnight. That night I realized my true potential. Well that night it was me, Shanm and Vinay we were the only three in our project who was deploying the code to dev environment. Shanm was already half dead by somewhere around 3:00AM, he had totally lost his conscious. Vinay was all hungry and restless by that time, but he was still pushing hard. I was really excited to stay overnight. I was all pumped up all night. Now it was around 3:30 AM when my senses reached its max, I was all alert and was really excited. At this point of time I could have done at least 11 person's work. My efficiency was approximately 121%. Normally in the day times my efficiency is as low as 77%. Now I have finally discovered that I am more efficient at nights than days. Before leaving all of us were hungry, so we had some snacks and coff...

Secret Santa

Santa Claus, the legendary patron saint of children; an imaginary being who is thought to bring presents to children at Christmas. I had never ever met him before or had even received gifts on Christmas, coz my parents say I am a Hindu. Last week in my office they had arranges a game called as Secret Santa. In this game everyone is a Santa for someone else. In the starting I had no interest in playing the game. But on day one for my surprise, I had received a letter from my Santa, that moment I had the joy of my life. Then I decided to play it, coz I was a secret Santa for another person. I sent him secret mails and then gave him a gift on Friday. He was really happy. I never expected any gifts from my Santa. On Friday I returned back from lunch. I was amazed to see gifts at my chair. Everyone got normal gifts, but mine was a very special one. There was a gift and a hug packet of chips. Many got chocolates but me chips. I showed everyone the gift with full of joy, coz I love to be diff...
